Quickdraw Animation Society
Evangelos Diavolitsis : Executive Director
Cartoon Character: Bugs Bunny
I have been passionate about the art of film from a young age. Having spent many years viewing films and working in the film industry in Toronto, prepared me for the role I currently find myself in. I dove into Anime while living in Japan and learned to respect how different artists like to tell stories. That’s what we do. Quickdraw staff and animators tell stories about triumphs, failures and transformation. My job parallels an animated film with many twists, turns and sub plots. What a fun ride!! My two main goals are to inspire staff and members through personal experience and to get artists’ works flowing into the hearts and minds of Calgarians.
Erin Belanger : Project Director
Cartoon Character: Blooregard Q. Kazoo
Being an artist is great, cause it’s not hoarding when you’re an artist, it’s collecting. I collect everything. My studio is a labyrinth of fabric swatches and paint chips, dollar store seashells and cake toppers, sculpey, magnifying sheets, pictures, yarn, foam core, paper, and canvas. Like a magpie to a piece of aluminum foil, I am drawn to shiny, pretty things regardless of their actual value. I have bins of mirror pieces, silver confetti hearts, holographic stickers, glittery ribbon, and mini disco balls.
When I’m not busy turning the apartment I share with my ever-patient boyfriend into a Value Village outlet, I work at Quickdraw as the Project Director and occasionally make things out of my stores of treasures. At the moment, I consider myself a pre-animator, and am extremely excited to be part of Quickdraw.
Karilynn Thompson : Programming and Communications Coordinator
Cartoon Character: Alice in Wonderland
I am an Artist, cynical utopian, tea aficionado, maker of things, and graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design with a degree in Drawing. While I have worked in animation and video since encountering Quickdraw in 2001, I also paint, sew, and costume my world. My work often revolves around natural materials, fantasy and escape, survival, and transformation into animal forms. I am enthralled with all things in nature, deep seas, moss, and miniature worlds.
My fascination with animation is one of Dr. Frankenstein proportions: I love having the power to create my own world and bring objects to life! I have been active with Quickdraw through serving on the Board of Directors, as the recipient of the Quickdraw/NFB production scholarship, graduate of the Youth Animation Project, and currently as Staff and a producing animator.
Jennifer Vallis: Digital Production Coordinator
Cartoon Character: Chihiro from Spirited Away
I have always been the girl with a thousand questions and curiosities. I identify as an artist, interface designer, ballerina, computer programmer and origami aficionado. I like to hack apart electronics, make interactive instruments and play with all kinds of new media. A graduate from the Alberta College of Art and Design's Media Arts and Digital Technologies program, my practice explores 2-D animation, video+sound production, interactive programming and installation work. I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining the Quickdraw family as the Digital Production Coordinator and looking forward to all the creative adventures to come.
Jessi Schroeyers-Frederick: Volunteer Coordinator
Cartoon Character: Finn the human - Adventure Time
I am an aspiring animator with a passion for design, illustration, experimental music and photography. Most of my time is spent animating and writing as well as drawing humorous pictures of myself, my partner, and my two cats. I have an unhealthy amount of love for cartoons and hope to one day create my own series. Since Quickdraw has played such an important role in the production of my own animations, I am very excited for the opportunity to contribute as volunteer coordinator!
